3 Tips to Finding That Elusive Work/Life Balance | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant
Did you know that 70.5 percent of women in the workforce have children age 18 and younger? If you’re a working mom, know you aren’t alone. Far from it, in fact.
Having a hard time finding that elusive work/life balance? I have some tips to help.
Finding the Perfect Balance
According to the Center for American Progress, women now make up 50 percent of all American workers and nearly 40 percent of households have a working mother.
But just because you’re working outside the home doesn’t mean that you can’t have a fulfilling home life. Taking these steps can help.
First, let go of any expectations you have of being a working mom. We would all like to be that mom who gets up early enough to get in a workout and have lunches and breakfast made before work and then have a dinner cooked from scratch on the table by 6 p.m.
But that standard is probably at least a wee bit too high! Let go of high expectations about what a working mom should be—and just be your own best version.
Second, create a weekly calendar of all activities for all members of the household that’s placed where everyone in the family can see. This can help things run more smoothly for the family because all family members are in the know about what’s happening and when. Set one day aside each week to sit down as a family and write down everyone’s schedule for the week together. You can even go ahead and meal plan, too, which will help to make dinner time simpler.
Finally, try and stay connected with your family as much as possible. Instead of eating with your coworkers during lunch or running errands, why not stop by your child’s school and have lunch? Find yourself having 15 minutes to kill before your next meeting starts? Why not give your child a call to see how his or her day went? Those little things here and there can make all the difference in keeping your family connected—and your work/life balance intact!
