Don't Forget About Self-Care This Holiday Season | Sandi Parkey, Pink Zebra Independent Consultant
Although this time of year is usually called the “most wonderful” time of the year, some people might suggest it should be named the “most stressful” time of the year. And they aren’t wrong!
While I enjoy this time of year, the holiday stress can sometimes get out of hand. Because of that, l try to make a conscious effort to carve out time for self-care. Not only does it help me handle the stress, but it also allows me to enjoy the holiday season with my loved ones even more!
Here are some ways I reduce my stress this season. Hopefully, these ideas can help you, too!
Experience All of the Emotions
The holiday season can be an extremely emotional time for a number of reasons, including missing loved ones who have passed away. Don’t push your emotions to the side. I find I end up having a harder time when I try to ignore how I am feeling during this time of year.
Embrace your emotions and deal with them in order to be able to better handle the holiday season, especially if you have difficult family members coming to dinner. Find a safe space to vent, whether to a best friend or a therapist, who can help you deal with your emotions and enjoy the holiday season more.
Take Good Care of Your Body
Although we should always strive to eat a healthy diet, exercise at least 30 minutes a day, and get around eight hours of sleep each night, now is the time you really need to focus on your healthy habits.
The holiday season is a busy time of year. Make sure you can handle the busyness of the holiday season by giving your body what it needs to stay energized and motivated.
Continue to Enjoy Your Hobbies
Don’t let this time of year be filled with only tasks. You still need to be able to do the things you love.
Therefore, take a break from the holiday cooking, cleaning and shopping to read your favorite book, get a massage or enjoy a lunch date with girlfriends! Your health and well-being will thank you.
