Enjoy a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving Holiday | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant

This year has certainly been one for the record books, and it seems that Thanksgiving will be no exception. With large gatherings still not recommended and social distancing the name of the game, many people are wondering who will even be allowed at the Thanksgiving table this holiday.

Although there might be fewer people present this Thanksgiving, that doesn’t mean that the celebration can’t be as grand as in years’ past. It just means you’ll have to be a little more creative!

So, let’s put on our thinking caps and start making this Thanksgiving the best one yet!

Thanksgiving Isn’t Cancelled

The key to conquering this Thanksgiving is to make it your own while still following through on your family traditions—even if the rituals might need some modifications.

Is there a dish your grandmother always brings to the Thanksgiving dinner? What about a game your family plays before or after the meal? Even without everyone physically present for Thanksgiving, you can still hold true to rituals.

If you have to social distance this holiday, get the recipe from grandma in advance so that the dish can still be served up at Thanksgiving. Better yet—have a Facetime call on Thanksgiving morning with your grandmother in order to make the dish together over the phone. You’ll be in the “virtual” kitchen together!

As for the game played during the holiday, set up a Zoom meeting for everyone to get on at the same time and play the game together. Sure, it might be different. But who’s to say different isn’t fun!?

Today, I Am Thankful for…

It’s important to remember that the whole point of Thanksgiving is for there to be lots of thanks-giving!

If your family gathering will be virtual this year, email or mail each other notes expressing what you appreciate about each other before Thanksgiving Day. Then during the meal, you can open those notes of gratitude and read them aloud.

You can also start thinking ahead to Thanksgiving 2021—when, hopefully, everyone will be back together again. Establish a “Family Wish List” of everything you want to do and achieve next Thanksgiving when everyone is able to spend the holiday together!
