Find Yourself in the New Year | Sandi Parkey, Pink Zebra Independent Consultant
We did it! Together, we made it to 2022.
Not feeling like yourself? Good news: We are in a new year—and we can have a fresh start!
I know I am hoping to find myself again this year, and I want to share how I plan to do so with you in case you would like to join me in this journey.
Take Time for Self-Exploration in the New Year
When making your calendar for the new year, make sure you are making time for yourself.
Just like you would schedule a meeting or doctor appointment, you want to schedule time for yourself to do some self-exploration and find yourself again in 2022.
Make a Vision Board
You have probably heard of the vision board concept when it comes to envisioning your goals, such as going on a dream vacation, getting out of debt or starting your own business.
However, with this vision board, you are going to use it as a way to help visualize yourself. Think about where you hope to see yourself in five or 10 years.
What are some regrets you have in life? What do you want from life? What makes you the most proud?
Put all these answers and any addition questions you have for yourself on your vision board so that you have something physical to see every day in order to help keep you on the path of self discovery in the new year.
Don’t Be Afraid to Try New Things
One of the best ways to learn more about yourself is to you step outside your comfort zone. If you always are doing things you are good at and comfortable with, then are you really able to grow?
You are capable of so much, but you need to quit letting fear stop you from trying. Use some of your calendar dates for me-time in order to try out some new hobbies. Perhaps you have wanted to take an Asian cooking class or learn how to play golf. Do it!
There is no better time than the present to try something new!
Write It Down
When looking for ways to get back in touch with yourself, consider journaling. Even if it has been months or years since you last journaled, journaling can help you really learn more about yourself, especially being able to see it on paper.
Aim to take about 10 minutes each night before bed to write things down. Talk about your day.
Did you learn anything new about yourself? Is there anything the day brought that you hope to see more of in the new year?
Don’t worry about being grammatically correct. The goal is to see things on paper so that at the end of the year, you can see how much you have grown since the first entry.
If in the midst of self-discovery you find that you are looking to be your own boss, give me a shout! There are a number of opportunities with Pink Zebra where you can find yourself in the driver’s seat of your own career.
