Give Yourself the Gift of Time
Life today is not like it was years ago. In today’s economy, most families need both parents working, which means less time is being spent between a parent and a child. Fortunately, being a Pink Zebra consultant, you do not have to choose work over family. You can have the best of both worlds!
Importance of Spending Time with Children
You are one of the most vital role models in your child’s life. While your child may talk about a favorite celebrity or family member they look up to, they are also looking to you for guidance. As a result, it is important for parents to make themselves available to their children. And while work is needed in order to put food on the table and a roof over your child’s head, there are still ways to be there for them.
For instance, try and schedule some time with your child one day each week where it is just you and them. You can do anything from visiting your favorite restaurant, to going for a hike, or just even taking a drive. The point is to spend quality time with them in order to create a deeper bond. See what is going on with them currently. How are they handling school, work, etc.? Use it as a time to “touch base.”
In addition, try to be supportive of their interests by being present. Are they in a school play? Be seated on the front row! Do they like basketball? Set up a basketball goal, and play a game of horse! Try to show them that you are available to help them achieve their goals.
This also works for homework time. Even if they do not end up needing help, make yourself available during the time they are completing their homework. This allows them to be able to turn to you if they do have an issue arise. Plus, it gives you all the chance to work as a team and come up with solutions together, building an even bigger level of trust between the two.
