How to Celebrate Memorial Day as a Family | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant
Do you have plans for Memorial Day? Things certainly look a lot different than they did last year at this time!
Whether you choose to have a small gathering this Memorial Day or you are looking for a lowkey, immediate family-only celebration, there are a number of ways you can have a memorable holiday weekend.
Explore the True Meaning of Memorial Day
Let’s be real: Most people celebrate this holiday without pausing to reflect on the holiday and what it means. While we often use the holiday weekend as an informal kickoff to summer, it’s actually a very solemn remembrance for those who lost their lives in service to our country.
Talk with your kids about the true meaning behind the holiday. You might even want to see if your community offers a chance to serve on the holiday, such as by laying wreaths on the graves of lost soldiers.
Acknowledge the Service of Our Military
While the holiday is acknowledging soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice, it’s a good opportunity to celebrate all members of our military. If you have a veteran in the family, make time for a FaceTime call.
There is nothing more special than hearing stories straight from the mouths of loved ones.
You could even take this one step further by sitting down with your children and writing letters to veterans thanking them for their service. You can’t imagine how memorable a letter would be.
Get Outside
Finally, enjoy time with loved ones by throwing a Memorial Day cookout!
It has been awhile since we have all been able to celebrate with one another. Now that small gatherings are happening, use this time to also reconnect with loved one.
Fire up the grill and serve your family Memorial Day favorites. Tell everyone to dress in their red, white and blue, and enjoy a some fun yard games with the kiddos!
Of course, no celebration is complete without a Sprinkle and Shade to set the tone of the party! Check out my 2021 Pink Zebra Collection today.
