Is Your Family Ready for the Back-to-School Rush? | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant

Whether you are a Pink Zebra consultant, a SAHM or a mom who works outside the home, we’re all dealing with the same issue right now (or will be soon), which is getting the children back into a school routine.

It can be hard to find your groove as a new school season gets underway, which is why I want to share a few tips.

Get Back Into a School Routine

Chances are that your kids have spent the summer days staying up late and sleeping in. Now that school’s back in session, it’s time to start getting back on a normal schedule.

Begin by getting your children back into an age-appropriate sleep routine. According to the Sleep Foundation, school-aged children need between nine and 11 hours of sleep every night.

If your children are getting less sleep than you think they need, gradually move bedtime back a little bit each night until your kids are waking up each morning well-rested.

You also want to make sure that you are starting your child’s day with a healthy breakfast and providing a healthy lunch. It’s essential to fuel your little one’s body to give him or her the energy needed to power through learning.

Finally, you also want to make sure that you are giving your children an after-school routine they can get used to. For example, when they get home for school, perhaps provide an after-school snack with free time that lasts for an hour or two before homework needs to start.

Then have them do their work during the time you are getting dinner ready so that after dinner, they can begin to wind down before the bedtime routine begins.
