Manage Your Finances as a Pink Zebra Consultant
Pink Zebra allows you a variety of opportunities, especially as a mother. While you are able to make your own schedule, you are also given the chance to be there for your family and children when they need you, along with helping to provide for your family. However, being your own boss also means taking care of your budget in a way that makes sure all your financial bases are covered.
Prepare Your Budget for Inconsistency
Being in control of your own career and money is freeing! However, there are certain financial considerations you need to think about before spending any of your hard-earned money on your “wants.”
For instance, you want to save twice as much as you would in your previous career for a rainy day. One month, you may sell your most, while the next month might be slower than planned. Therefore, you want to make sure every bill and “need” is covered in case you do not hit your sales for the month. This way, you can focus on the next month instead of stressing about your finances and bills this month.
Taxes are another thing you want to consider when paying yourself each month. Prior to being a consultant, your employer took the taxes out for you. However, now that you are your own boss and have your own business, you have to be the one to take the taxes out of each check. You do not want to come upon tax season, receive a bill of what you owe, and - then - not have the funds to cover the cost. Prepare for tax season by taking out taxes each month from your Pink Zebra pay and placing the funds in a separate account. Note: This account is not your emergency fund. It should be completely separate from that money, too. Most recommend saving about 20 percent each paycheck for taxes.
