Overcoming Your Productivity Obstacles | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant
Feel like you’ve lost your oomph? Whether you’ve lost your ability to be productive at home, at work or as a Pink Zebra consultant, it’s important to change things up. Read on for some tips on how to do just that!
It’s Time to Get Messy
When you were growing up, how many times did your mom ask you to clean up your room? Probably a dozen, since it’s one of the many commonly assigned chores. However, she did this so that, as a child, you learned how to stay organized, which is a trait that you would take all the way to adulthood. But sometimes you can be too organized for your own good.
Try getting messy to get your creative juices—and productivity—going.
First, get some noise going. Is your office space a little too quiet? While you don’t necessarily want to host a party in your office (or maybe you do!), playing music can help to get your brain waves moving.
Second, take your eagerness for organization down a few notches. Why? Because striving to be organized (even when in a hurry) can actually lead to frustration and a loss in productivity.
For example, if you’re in a hurry but just have to file everything on your desk before you leave, you run the risk of placing those documents in the wrong spot. Then when you go to look for them, the documents aren’t going to be where they were supposed to be in the first place. Therefore, if you need to wait until the next day for filing and organizing, do it. One day of leaving items on your desk won’t hurt anyone.
Finally, don’t be afraid to go from one thing on your to-do list to the next. Sometimes when you focus on one single project, you can prevent yourself from successfully completing that project because you become too focused and, therefore, your productivity on it stalls.
Therefore, when you feel like you are at a point of no return on one project, stop and pick it back up after you try something new. This concept will help to exercise your brain, too, and you might come back to the project with some new, even better ideas!
