Set Family Goals for September | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant
August is a busy month. The kids are getting ready to start back to school. The realization that more than half the year is over can be added stress, as you feel like you need to work even harder to reach your goals for the year.
In the midst of the August chaos, family time can fall by the wayside. Therefore, I want to challenge you to think of some goals you and your family can set together so that quality time with family doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.
Create Family Goals
While it is important for us to have our own personal goals, it is also vital we have goals as a family. When we work together as a unit toward a common goal (or goals), we are helping to create stronger bonds within our family unit.
Let’s take a look at goals you can set as a family for the month of September.
Have More Family Meals
Yes, there are times where meals aren’t going to be eaten together as a family. Extracurriculars and work responsibilities may keep you from gathering around the table as often as you’d like. But you can aim to have a family dinner most days of the week.
When a family enjoys dinner together, every member of the family reaps the benefits.
Save Money for a Common Goal
Is there a vacation your family wants to take? Or could your family use a new car? Perhaps you want to save up for a pool table for all to enjoy?
No matter what you’re saving for, wouldn’t it be best if you conquered the goal together?
Work to put money back each week in order to achieve your goal. Create a visual depiction of what you’re saving for—and how much you’ve saved so far.
Start a Hobby Together
What bonds a family more than learning something new together? During the pandemic, a lot of normal activities have been off-limits, leaving people on their own to create fun.
If you haven’t already, consider starting a new hobby with the family next month. Some ideas of good family hobbies include:
- Cooking
- Learning a new language
- Knitting
- Trying a new sport like yoga or soccer
