Spring Forward Without the Stress | Sandi Parkey, Pink Zebra Independent Consultant

Can you believe we are already at the point in the year where it is time to spring forward? Where do the days go—it feels like Christmas just ended.

I don’t know about you, but the time change is one thing that really can mess up my schedule. You wouldn’t think one hour could make such an impact on a person, but it seems like it takes weeks for me to get back on track after we spring forward.

This year, I want to make the transition into spring as seamless as possible. Read on for some insight about how I plan to prepare.

Getting Ready for the Time Change

Who says you have to wait until the official day that Daylight Saving Time begins before you start acting like the waking and sleeping hours have changed? Not me, which is why one of the first things I plan on doing from this day forward is going to bed and waking up as if “spring forward” has already taken place.

I might start with 15-minute changes. For instance, I might go to bed 15 minutes earlier and wake up 15 minutes earlier for a few days,

Then, I might move to 30 minutes and so-on and so-forth until I get to an hour. That way my body and mind won’t be in such a shock once March 13 arrives.

In addition to moving my bedtime and morning routine, I will work to make sure I set those times up for success. How?

When it comes to my bedtime routine, I will work to avoid consuming caffeine before I go to bed, as it can certainly keep me up at night. Also, if I get hungry before bedtime, I will avoid eating anything heavy and/or spicy.

Instead, I will stick to light, easy-to-digest foods like almonds or a glass of milk.

Since it might be harder falling to sleep earlier, I am also going to try some relaxing techniques before bed, such as taking a warm bath or reading a book. Hopefully, this can all help me get a good night’s sleep and not have to stress once the time change comes around.
