Stress Level Through the Roof? Here's How to Handle It. | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant
Stress is all around us. It can be found at work, within our finances and even at home.
It seems no matter whether you are a stay-at-home mom, career woman or a Pink Zebra consultant, you cannot hide from stress. Therefore, it is important that you learn techniques that can assist you in controlling stress before it starts to control you!
Give these tips a try to help rein in your stress levels:
Limit Your Caffeine Intake
OK, this one might hurt, especially if you are a coffee drinker. However, coffee contains caffeine, which can increase or exacerbate stress.
Therefore, try avoiding caffeine where you can and replacing it with drink options such as:
- Diluted natural fruit juices
- Herbal teas
- Water, included flavored options
The aforementioned beverages help keep your body hydrated, which can ensure your body is better able to handle any stress that comes your way.
Start Getting More Exercise
It is extremely easy to come up with excuses not to work out. However, who is that really helping? It definitely isn’t helping your ability to handle stress.
When you exercise, you are able to create a calmer, more relaxed state of mind than if you were sedentary, since stress can increase the level of adrenaline and cortisol in your body. Physical exercise can help to bring it back down to a more normal level.
Don’t worry. This doesn’t mean you have to be a runner. There are a number of types of exercise you can do that bring about the same result, such as:
- Brisk walking
- Cycling
- Dancing
- Playing basketball
- Swimming
- Lifting weights
Make Sure You Get Enough Sleep
Although you might think staying up late to finish that project is a good idea, lack of sleep can lead to a very stressful day.
Therefore, it is important to give your brain and body plenty of time to rest each night so that you wake up rested and ready to conquer the day—as well as any stress that might come your way!
