Spring Cleaning 101

Let’s take a look at how you can tackle spring-cleaning like a boss now so that you can enjoy a peaceful, refreshing spring season later:

Start by taking a look through your cabinets. Are they mostly used to hide stuff when guests are coming over? Now is the time to make your cabinets look just as clean and decluttered on the inside as they do on the outside.

If it is a food cabinet you are having a hard time tackling, consider using storage bins or racks to help with the organization of various foods and spices.

Next, move to the windows! The sun is about to really start shining, and the flowers are going to begin to bloom. Don’t miss out on the beautiful weather by having smudges all over your windows.

Seize the next cloudy day—usually the best day to wash windows—and use some newspaper, soap and water to tackle the inside windows of your home. The cloudy day will prevent the cleanser you use to wash your windows from drying out, plus you are better able to see if you missed any spots, while the newspaper can help to eliminate the streaking and residue that is sometimes left over when using a paper towel.

Finally, tackle the clutter that tends to pile up on your countertops, desks and any other flat surface in your home. It has been shown that clutter increases a person’s anxiety. Therefore, make your home feel more calming and anxiety-free by working to declutter your home as much as possible.

Then, when you have piled up all the clutter, you can divide it into three piles—keep, donate and throw away. Remember, if you haven’t used it within the last six months, you probably won’t!
