Timing Is Everything

Here we go again! School, work, family—and trying to do each at 100 percent. If you’re like me, you’re probably already feeling a little bit overwhelmed. But have no fear—together, we can conquer it all!

Juggling All Your Worlds

Remember, when you think something is impossible, the letters in the word impossible spell I’m possible. All things are possible: You just have to put your ducks in a row.

First, set your goals. Where do you want to be in a year? Five years? Ten years? These goals are not just in terms of your career, but also in regard to your family. Do you want to work less and play more in five years? Do you want to be able to pay off family debt by the end of this year? Whatever your goals are, write them down and keep them where you can look at them easily.

Second, no matter how many hours you put into your career, you also want to make time for your family. In your planner, schedule time that you’re able to spend with family. During this time with your loved ones, make it a point to turn off technology so that everyone can be present. Watching a movie or TV as a family is good, but spending time surfing the Web on your phone isn’t!

Be sure to always communicate. As long as everyone knows what is expected of them, things can run as smoothly as possible. Do you have an early meeting? Let the kids and your spouse know, so that they can be prepared in the morning knowing you’ll be leaving early. Also, create a scheduling board so that everyone knows what is going on each and every day. Poor communication leads to lots of chaos, both in work and family. If everyone’s on the same page, there’s less room for error.
