'Tis the Season for No Stress! | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…for stress? No, that’s not how the song goes!

It’s not that we don’t enjoy the holidays. We do! But there’s so much going on—the potlucks, ornament exchanges, school plays, winter break, making a trip to see Santa, etc. There is just so much to do within the 25 days of Christmas—not to mention all the movies we must watch during the holidays to make it feel even more like Christmas!

But this time of year doesn’t have to be this way. Now’s the time to get rid of all your expectations and simply enjoy what’s ahead.

Plan to De-stress This Holiday Season

It’s time to let go of perfection.

Gift-giving doesn’t need to be complicated. Yet, we all have a tendency to make it that way because we so want to give that perfect gift—when really, the perfect gift is just hanging out with loved ones and making memories!

Instead of worrying about what to get everyone, get them something you believe they would enjoy. Perhaps your daughter is moving into a new apartment and needs a Woolie or two to help add some decor to the place. Or your brother just got a new car and could use a soak or two to keep that good, clean car smell.

When it comes to enjoying a holiday meal with the family, get everyone involved. One person shouldn’t have the stress of having to take care of the entire Christmas meal for the family. What ends up happening is you end up in the kitchen for hours while everyone else is out socializing and making memories.

If everyone were to pitch in by bringing a side dish, dessert or some other part of the meal, then you would be able to spend less time in the kitchen and more time catching up with family—or even caroling around the neighborhood bringing holiday cheer to others!
