Who Is Ready to Go Back to School? | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant

Can you believe that another summer is coming to an end? It can only mean one thing: Back-to-school season is here!

Is your child ready? Let’s take a look at ways you can help make the transition from summer break to school as easy as possible for your family.

School’s Back in Session

Are you worried about how the family will do going from summer hours to school hours? Have no fear!

There are a couple of things you can go ahead and get started on now in order to make the first few weeks back to school as smooth as possible.

Reset Bedtimes

Start back on school bedtimes before the school season begins. Did you know that school-aged children need between 10 and 11 hours of sleep each night?

During summer break, chances are your children have been going to bed later, as well as sleeping later. In order to make sure they are getting enough sleep, start setting earlier bedtimes and wake-up times a couple weeks before school actually begins. That way when school is in session, your children will have mastered the habit of going to bed early and waking up early for school.

Set an After-School Routine

If you are a working mom, set up after-school care so that your children are taken care of between the time they get out of school and the time you get done with work.

When interviewing caregivers or after-school programs, aim to have them be able to help your children with homework, as well as keep them active so that they have their energy worked-out and are ready for dinner and bedtime.

Build a Reading Habit

Finally, reading is so important! Encourage your children to read at least one book before the school year begins.

Reading can help your child to:

  • Develop early literacy skills
  • Spark your child’s imagination
  • Stimulate curiosity
  • Develop your child’s brain
  • Improve child’s ability to focus
