Getting Into School Mode | Sandi Parkey Pink Zebra Independent Consultant
Can you believe that we’re already to this point? We’re talking about our kids going back to school? This just seems crazy to me, as I was just talking about how being a Pink Zebra consultant can help you earn extra money over the summer! But now, it’s time to refocus and discuss how we all can get back into the mindset of school mode.
It’s a New School Year!
Purchasing the school supplies is easy. Getting mentally prepared for the school year is hard. However, you and your child can make the transition from summer to school as easy on yourselves as possible with these tips.
Sometime this week, have a conversation with your child about the start of a new school year. What is he or she most excited about? If your child is moving from one school to another (such as going from middle to high school), ask your child if he or she has any concerns about being a new student in a new school. If you know what your child is worried about, then you can know how to help him or her become more comfortable.
You want to help your family as a whole establish a new routine. Your summer probably allowed you to stay up late, sleep in more often, eat whenever you were hungry, etc. However, now that school is about to be back in session, a better routine will be necessary in order to complete the tasks at hand for each day.
Therefore, sit down with your family one night this week and make out a calendar for the month that includes school days and non-school days. Also, write down work meetings, after-school activities, family outings, etc. In addition, go ahead and also write down your meals for the week, as well as schedule in “homework” time and “family” time. Many families use dinner as family time, but if this doesn’t work well for your family, then maybe schedule an evening walk around the neighborhood or 10 to 15 minutes before bed to just reconnect.
